This 11.5"x18" poster touts a heavyweight championship fight that wasn't expected to be very memorable. What materialized, however, was one of the greatest upsets in boxing lore. Considered little more than a journeyman fighter, Braddock was hand-picked by Baer's handlers because he was seen as eminently beatable. Instead, on June 13, 1935, at Madison Square Garden Bowl, Braddock bucked the odds with a stunning victory as a 10-1 underdog. The framed poster promises free ringside seats and transportation to the bout through a Gillette contest, complete with instructions and rules. A photo of Baer graces the right side of the ad, and there's an illustration of the Gillette Blue Blade product in the lower right corner.
