1935 Boston Bruins First Line Photograph (PSA Type I)
Displayed is a wonderful 1935 "old time" hockey Type I photo of the first line of the Boston Bruins: LW Red Beattie, Hall of Fame center Cooney Weiland, and Hall of Fame right wing Dit Clapper. Formerly, Weiland and Clapper, along with former Boston Bruin LW Dutch Gainor, had formed the Bruins' famous first line, a trio known as the "Dynamite Line," one of the first NHL hockey lines to be given a nickname. In the 1935-36 season, the Bruins had a 22-20-6 record and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the playoffs by the Toronto Maple Leafs. That season, Red Beattie scored 14 goals and added 18 assists for 32 points; Weiland notched 14 goals and tacked on 14 assists for 28 points; Clapper had 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points. Clapper, who played from 1927-47, was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947, the first living player to ever be selected. Hall of Famer Weiland finished his NHL career with 173 goals and 160 assists for 333 points. Clapper was a 3-time Stanley Cup winner for the Bruins, more than any other Boston Bruin in history. Clapper is mentioned in the movie Slap Shot, as Clapper, Toe Blake and Eddie Shore are referred to as players exemplifying "old time hockey." The back of the photo is stamped NOV 19, 1935, and the photo back shows an attached caption for the photo that reads, "Here are the Bruins...They will open their home season tonight against the New York Americans. At the left is the new Bruins first line. Left to right Dit Clapper, Cooney Weiland, and Red Beattie." The black and white photo measures approx. 6.5x8.25". It has been encapsulated and PSA certified "TYPE I AUTHENTIC AUTO." The offered photo has great vintage hockey appeal.
