1935 Seabiscuit’s First Win Program

1935 Seabiscuit’s First Win Program

On June 6, 1934, the Narragansett Racing Association was awarded the state's first horse racing permit and one year later, on June 22, 1935, Narragansett Park in Pawtucket, Rhode Island became one of the nation's most financially successful racetracks. Seabiscuit broke his maiden there and equaled the five-furlong track record. This is the program for that "sixth race." It is in VG condition with several pencil marks, creases and some frayed edges. Four days later in the Watch Hill Claiming Stakes, Seabiscuit once again broke the track record, this time by a full second. In 1937, the famed thoroughbred finished third in the Narragansett Special, ending his streak of seven consecutive stakes wins.
