1936 Berlin Olympic Games Relay Torch

1936 Berlin Olympic Games Relay Torch

Perhaps most known for Jesse Owens winning four Gold medals and disrupting plans of a German coronation, the 1936 Olympic Summer Games was also distinguished by a trend-setting torch relay. For the first time, the Olympic flame would be moved via relay system from its original home in Athens to the site of the games. This shiny, silver-colored item was used for this purpose and contains German inscription on the top and stem, which also bears the Olympic logo and a map of the relay route. Measures 10.5" in length and is in EX-MT condition. The Olympic flame had been introduced eight years earlier, and the 1936 relay, which featured this very torch, was captured in the controversial 1938 German film "Olympia."
