1936 New York Yankees Team Photo Framed

1936 New York Yankees Team Photo Framed

Presented is a framed team photo of the 1936 World Champion New York Yankees, a team packed with Hall of Fame players. Judging from the foliage in the background and the number of players in the photo, the offering is a shot from spring training that year. The Yankees went 102-51 in '36 to take the American League pennant and they beat the New York Giants in six games in the World Series. In the top row, fourth from left, is Hall of Fame pitcher Red Ruffing, who was 20-12 in '36. In the second row, third from right, is Hall of Fame second baseman Tony Lazzeri, who knocked in 107 runs that season. In the third row from the top, fifth from right, is manager Joe McCarthy. Third from the right in that row is HOF center fielder Joe DiMaggio, who batted .323 with 29 home runs and 125 RBIs in '36. Second from the right in the third row is HOF first sacker Lou Gehrig, who hit.354, with 49 homers and 152 RBIs that year. On the bottom (sitting) row, on the left is Vernon "Lefty" Gomez, the HOFer who was 13-7 in '36. In the bottom row, fourth from left is HOF catcher Bill Dickey, who hit .362, with 22 homers and 107 RBIs that year. The photo measures approx. 9.75x11.75", framed to 10.75x12.75". The photo and original frame show cracking and portions stuck to the glass. The photo also appears to have water damage in several spots. There are some stains, and portions of the skin of the photo are missing, or damaged by water and/or age. Also in the lot is an approximately 6x9.75" photo, framed to 6.75x10.75", depicting (in an unknown year) Babe Ruth and Colonel Ruppert, New York Yankees' owner. The photo exhibits some water damage and some other damage, from an unknown cause, particularly in the upper left portion of the photo. Both photos show an extreme vintage look.
