1937 Stanford vs Cal "Big Game" Related Original Negatives (35+)
The "Big Game" is the moniker given to the annual Cal vs. Stanford gridiron match up that has occurred each year since 1892 with the only lapse being during each of the two World Wars. This collection of original negatives (35+) captures celebratory images related to the 1937 contest at Cal in Berkeley. This was the year that Cal was known as the "Thunder team" having gone 10-0-1 and giving up a total of 33 points the entire year. They defeated their archrival Stanford 13-0. Images include the "Big Game Night" photos from the Drake, Palace, Fairmont and Mark Hopkins Hotels, images of students in jail due to game related mayhem, opening parade shots with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, hands and feet of Big Game celebrants, repainting "Big C", Big Game bet losers, and others. No game shots. Great insight into the traditions and history of this storied rivalry.
