1937 World Series Program Original Cover Art

1937 World Series Program Original Cover Art

This is the actual original painting used to publish the 1937 World Series Program at the Polo Grounds. Stunning work by noted illustrator Grant Powers in a watercolor on heavy artist's board (16x13"). Two baseball cameos are at top in lyrical designs with third circle below purely printing, "1937 Yankees vs Giants Official Program 25c." The round disc for the printing has been lost through time but we have replaced it with a copy for display purposes. This came out of the collection of the son of a key employee of Harry M. Stevens, the legendary sports impresario who printed all the World Series programs and took credit for inventing the hot dog. Regardless, he at least had a lot of mustard. Pinholes at corners and other wear from being hung at the Harry M. Stevens offices at the Polo Grounds. Comes with an original 1937 World Series program with exact same cover art. It is said that Stevens was the pocketbook for John T. Brush, owner of the Giants, as Brush always needed money. Harry made all the cash selling hot dogs and such but Brush had to pay for all those players and a heady lifestyle. He offered to sell him a piece of the team any times but he wanted no such headache. Big mistake.
