1938 MLB All-Star Game Scorecard

1938 MLB All-Star Game Scorecard

1937 fold over advertising scorecard, issued by Mobil Gas, scored on the interior for the 1938 All Star Game, held at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. This was a regional advertising scorecard distributed in the Philadelphia area at Mobil Gas stations located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The front cover promotes Bill Dyer's radio broadcast, while the interior scoring section provides the 1937 home schedules for both the Phillies and Athletics. As one can see here, the scorecard was used by one fan the following year to record the action in the 1938 mid-summer classic. The game has been neatly scored in pencil to record the National League's 4-1 victory that day. Included in the handwritten lineups are Gehrig, DiMaggio, Foxx, and Grove for the American League, and Ott, Herman, Medwick, and Durocher for the National League. The scorecard (5.5" x 9", folded) remains in Excellent condition.
