1938 Seabiscuit vs Ligaroti Delmar Turf Club Program

1938 Seabiscuit vs Ligaroti Delmar Turf Club Program

This is one of the rarest of all Seabiscuit race programs as it features the little-known Match Race between Charles S. Howard's "Seabiscuit" and Bing Crosby's "Ligaroti" that put the Del Mar Turf Club on the map. Crosby had opened the track just one year earlier and teamed with Howard to create an event - specifically this race - that would draw a large crowd. And despite the fact that there was no public wagering allowed, a record 20,000 race fans came to Del Mar, and the race became the first ever announced by the NBC radio network. The program - which measures roughly 4x9" - has some minor water damage on the top of the back cover and a small hole on the front but otherwise is in EX condition. There are pencil notes inside as well.
