1939 Luke Appling Game Used Lathe Marked and Side Written Bat

1939 Luke Appling Game Used Lathe Marked and Side Written Bat

Super tough bat (34-1/2”) from Hall of Famer Appling. Last name in block on the barrel since he did not have a contract with H&B. Was sent back to H&B to be duplicated after it was cracked. This is evidenced by the bin number “C10” stamped on knob and barrel ends and by the side writing in pencil on the side of the barrel “34 oz Ben Chapman 5-29-39.” This bat was sent back to H&B by Ben Chapman. Thus, it does not exclude Appling from using the bat. It is probable that he did. It was then used by Chapman and sent back to H&B. A very rare bat.
