1939 New York Yankees Black Bat

1939 New York Yankees Black Bat

The 1939 New York Yankees carved out a place in history by sweeping the Reds in the World Series. Then they had their signatures carved into this souvenir bat with the engraved inscription "World Champions 1939." Lou Gehrig stands alone next to the Louisville Slugger label. His body already ravaged by the disease that would bear his name, he played just eight games before retiring. His replacement, Babe Dahlgren, is on the bat head, below team ace Red Ruffin. Other gold-filled names in this EX-MT testament to the post-Babe Ruth dynasty are Bill Dickey, Earl Coombs, Joe Gordon, Lefty Gomez and Red Rolfe.
