1939 New York Yankees Team Signed Ball With Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio

1939 New York Yankees Team Signed Ball With Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio

It’s hard to imagine a ball heavier with more profound history than this glittering orb. Which may be why collectors have long faced a tall task locating a 1939 signed Yankee ball in prized condition. This is a ball that bears the signatures of Lou Gehrig in his his final season, Joe DiMaggio in his best hitting season, and 23 total signatures of perhaps the best team in baseball history. While the 1927 Yankees get more props, the ‘39 Bronx Bombers, who won 106 games, hit 8 more homers (166) than the ‘27 bunch and were equally awesome in sweeping to a World Series victory. And, of course, it was the year of Gehrig’s “luckiest man on the face of the earth” farewell address. This may well be the best ‘39 signed Yankee ball available. The OAL (Harrdige) ball is EX at the least, having endured with a super tough quality and a very pleasing, even light tan patina. The signatures in blue ink stand out proudly, with Gehrig’s (sweet spot) and DiMaggio’s garnering an 8 out of 10. Others include fellow HOFers manager Joe McCarthy (sec.), Lefty Gomez (sec.), Bill Dickey and Red Ruffing, Red Rolfe, Tom Heinrich, Charlie Keller, Joe Gordon, Johnny Murphy, etc. All in 7, 8 or 9 range. A ball that is majestic in every way.
