1940's Jake LaMotta Fight Worn "Leopard Skin" Robe
Jake La Motta was born on July 10, 1922 in Bronx, New York. He began his professional career on March 3, 1941. He won the World Middleweight Title on June 16, 1949 stopping Marcel Cerdan in 10 rounds. Posted career victories over Sugar Ray Robinson, Tommy Bell, Fritzie Zivic, Bob Satterfield and Laurent Dauthuille. His career mark was 83-19-4. Known as "The Bronx Bull" he will forever be remembered as the subject of the popular movie RAGING BULL. Offered here is the signature piece of Jake LaMotta's career, his famous "leopard skin" robe used in a number of fights during the late 1940's. The robe came from the collection of Jake's equally famous wife Vikki. Vikki LaMotta signed a letter of authenticity for the robe stating it was used in during the mid to late 1940's until it was replaced by a similar robe with a hood. The robe is full length with the original sash and sports a manufacturer's label from Everlast inside the collar.There is a tear under one arm and discoloration from age. It is made of crushed valour with the leopard design. There is an additional letter of authenticity from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc. There is also a photograph showing Jake LaMotta wearing the robe at one of his fights.
