1940's Joe Louis Fight Trunks

1940's Joe Louis Fight Trunks

Purple satin fight trunks with blue trim emanate from the boxing career of Joe Louis and come out of the collection of Joe Louis’ trainer, Mannie Seamon. These were originally offered as part of Guernseys auction in April, 1990 and sold as lot A142 (tag from that sale still attached). Everlast manufacturer’s tag on front center waistband, printed with “Made Expressly for Joe Louis”. Trunks show evidence of wear and colors have faded slightly with age. These are similar to the trunks Louis wore during his fights with Johnny Paycheck, Red Burman, Lee Savold & Jersey Joe Walcott (1948) and could possibly be from one of those fights. Without the resource of color film or photos, it is difficult to make a conclusion with certainty. LOA from famed boxing expert, Craig Hamilton.
