1940 Indiana Hoosiers National Championship Ring

1940 Indiana Hoosiers National Championship Ring

Seven months before Bobby Knight was born, the Indiana University college basketball team captured the first of its five national championships, defeating Kansas, 60-42, in the title game in Kansas City. This terrific, 10 Karat gold, 5-point real diamond is the first we have seen. A basketball charm on top was set into the ring, which is newer while the charm on top is vintage to 1940. The face reads: "INDIANA HOOSIERS" with "1940 CHAMPIONS" on the basketball protruding from the center. Both sides read: "1940 NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS." The three-tiered NCAA playoff structure meant the eventual national champion would only have to win three games. The 20-3 Hoosiers ousted Springfield (now a Division 3 program) and Duquesne to reach the championship game. NRMT condition. LOA.
