1940s Billy Conn Fight-Worn Gloves, Shoes, Jump Rope with Ephemera
On June 19, 1946, World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis fought tough Billy Conn for the second time in New York. Louis had a very difficult time with Conn in their first meeting, but not this time as he stopped him in 8 rounds. In addition to being an important fight, this event had the added significance of being the first World Heavyweight Championship broadcast on that new medium of television. Offered here are items of Billy Conn's attributed to this fight, including his gloves, which are Benlee 6-ounce specimens, his black leather boxing shoes and a training jump rope. These items were all retrieved from the collection of Conn's trainer, Billy Joos, and come with a letter of authenticity from Mary Joos Wilshire.
