1940s Red Cochrane Game Worn Chicago Cardinals Jersey
The jersey John "Red" Cochrane wore as a Chicago Cardinal in the 1940s was just the beginning of his odyssey in the NFL. He served 56 years as a player, coach, scout and administrator, 42 of them with the Green Bay Packers. Cochrane wore this red No. 24 during a rare shining period in the Cardinals' history. They won the NFL Championship in 1947, Cochrane's first of four years with the team as a back. A sewn L-shaped tear on the right shoulder, frayed stitching around the white numbers front and back, and loose threading at the end of one shirt tail make for cool souvenirs on an otherwise wonderfully preserved garment. Heavy-duty maroon nylon still has a sheen, and the button-studded shirttail front is a classic look. Obtained directly from Cochrane, you can display this with pride because the man who wore it to work lived one heckuva life. Cochrane also flew fighter planes in the Pacific during World War II. He died at age 82 in September after hip-replacement surgery, but his prime lives on in this jersey.
