1940s U.S. Army "Night Game" Satin Baseball Jersey & Cap

1940s U.S. Army "Night Game" Satin Baseball Jersey & Cap

Out of this world satin stunner was used solely for the games under the lights by none other than the United States Army baseball team. Specifically the "Camp Hunter Liggett" team (later known as Fort Hunter Liggett dating it pre-1952). From one of the few "brave and the bold" enough teams to wear actual satin baseball uniforms to shine under the relatively new ballpark lights first used in the majors in the 1935. Satin was worn by the Brooklyn Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Braves among others. This is the first we have heard or seen of the U.S. Army using it, most likely post WWII and just prior to Korea. We do not see anyone wearing these garish babies during wartime unless the apocalypse was a absolute certainty. The jersey is a Spalding with white with burgundy sleeves and lettering, while the matching cap is a white, six-panel crown with burgundy piping between each panel and "capped" by a color-matching button and bill. Matching cap is exceptional and quite reminiscent of the Southern Association All-Star game caps of this era. Overall Excellent or better condition. First we have seen.
