1941 Hal Chase Sporting News Advertising Poster

1941 Hal Chase Sporting News Advertising Poster

Though Hal Chase is considered to be one of the premier defensive first basemen of all time, his reputation was forever tarnished by his penchant for fixing games in the early 20th century. To compound his misdeeds, Chase became embroiled in the most famous scandal of the era, the Black Sox fixing the World Series, when it was alleged that he acted as middleman between the players and gamblers. This fantastic poster comes from late in Chase's life, when he was impoverished and repentant for the mistakes of his youth, which he spoke about in the issue of The Sporting News being advertised. It measures 11x14".
