1941 Lefty Gomez NY Yankees Game Used Home Pinstripe Jersey
One of the rarest Yankee pinstripe jerseys ever to exist, this spectacular heavy flannel home jersey comes off the back of colorful Hall of Famer Vernon "Lefty" Gomez. His name is chain-stitched in the collar and "41" chain-stitched in red on the inside back tail. Gomez's original #11 is visible and changed to #18 and "NY" removed from front breast after this jersey made its stop in the minor leagues after the 1942 season. Health patch sewn on left sleeve (team repair by embroidered name). This jersey was most likely worn by Gomez in 1941 and 1942 (Health patches were found on the jerseys from 1942-45 during the War years). After the 1942 season, this was sent down to the minors where the #18 was put on. Beautiful condition. Gomez played 13 of his 14 big-league seasons with the Bronx Bombers before spending the 1943 season with the Washington Senators. The seven-time All-Star and five-time World Series champ put a tidy bow on his career by being inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1972. A loveable screwball who constantly entertained with humorous anecdotes, Gomez was nicknamed "El Goofo" by his teammates.
