1942 and 1953 National Colored All Star Baseball Classic Tickets (Full and Stub)

1942 and 1953 National Colored All Star Baseball Classic Tickets (Full and Stub)

Pair of tickets issued for the National Colored All Star Game between the years 1942 and 1953. The National Colored All Star Game, which is more commonly referred to as East-West All Star Game because the teams were chosen by geographical location, was the Negro League's equivalent of the Major League baseball All Star Game. It was first played in 1933 and continued annually until 1962. The game was normally held in late July or August, usually at Comiskey Park in Chicago, and in some years two games were played. The tickets offered here, one from the 1942 game and the other from the 1953 game, span the time period of integration in Major League Baseball. 1)1942. Ticket stub issued for the first of two All Star games held on August 16th. The East defeated the West 5-2, with Leon Day earning the win, and Satchel Paige taking the loss for the West. The stub (2.25.2.25") displays moderate foxing front and back. In Very Good condition overall. 2) 1953. Full ticket issued for the game held on August 16th. The West defeated the East 5-1, with Sam Woods gaining the win over Willie Gaines. The ticket (5.5x2") displays moderate creasing and is in Good to Very Good condition.
