1943 War Bond Game Photograph with Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner & Legendary Hall of Famers (PSA Type I)
Original Type I photograph capturing the following eleven Hall of Fame players as they pose together in uniform at a War Bond game held at the Polo Grounds on August 26, 1943: Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Al Simmons, Walter Johnson, Lefty Grove, Connie Mack, Bill Dickey, Frank Baker, Eddie Collins, and George Sisler. The August 26, 1943, War Bond game was the largest of the many fundraising games held that year. The main exhibition was a game between an all-star squad of New York ballplayers (made up of members of the New York Giants, Brooklyn Dodgers, and New York Yankees) vs. a military service team, but most fans came to see the second exhibition, which was an old timers game. Many of the game's greatest former players attended that day, including seven of the then twelve living members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The highlight was a duel between Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson, which ended, appropriately enough, with a home run into the right field stands. An "Associated Press" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the erroneous handwritten date "1951." The photo (8.5x6.5") displays a few light creases and is in Very Good condition overall. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
