1944 Joe Louis Fight Worn Trunks
Although his fight did not fall within the string of opponents with which Louis so easily dispensed between 1937 and 1941, Johnny Davis' performance against the Brown Bomber on the night of November 14, 1944 certainly qualified him to be a full fledged member of Joe's "Bum of the Month" Club. Terribly overmatched, he was able to stay on his feet for a mere fifty-three seconds before Louis put him to the canvas for the count. That evening the long-time champion wore these black and orange satin trunks in front of the 9,000 in attendance at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, NY. For the occasion he added a buffalo design with the initials "N.Y." to the left leg, chain-stitched in orange thread. Inside the waistband are, "Dick Fischer" and [size] "34" tags. The trunks show nice use and were originally obtained from Louis by former boxer, Sam Butera. His notarized LOA is included.
