1945 Otto Graham Chapel Hill Navy Cloudbuster Game Worn Football Jersey

1945 Otto Graham Chapel Hill Navy Cloudbuster Game Worn Football Jersey

Leaving a mark the size of Cleveland, Ohio, Otto Graham became the first star on the Cleveland Browns and its first Hall of Fame inductee in 1965. But stardom for Graham started in college, playing football and basketball on a scholarship to Northwestern. He earned All-American honors in both sports while finishing third in the voting for the Heisman in ‘43. He is the only player to accomplish this feat in two sports. After graduating from Northwestern, Graham enrolled in the Navy’s V-7 carrier-landing program and was named back-to-back Service All-American in football and basketball. He would go on to win the NBL basketball title with the Rochester Royals, a franchise which flourishes today as the Sacramento Kings. But it was what he did for the Cleveland Browns that made him a legend and earned him a spot among the sports immortals. He made the world take notice after he led the expansion Browns team to an NFL Championship in their very first year in the NFL. During his ensuing 10-year NFL career with the Browns, Graham threw for a total of over 23,000 yards, losing just 20 total games and winning 7 league championships out of 10 appearances. Consider this not just a jersey, but a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of the legacy of one of the most marvelous, multi-talented athletes in the history of sports. This jersey is also the only one of its kind, bearing the number Otto wore at Northwestern, #48. He wore the #22 for most of his games with the Navy Cloudbusters due to the fact that #48 was already taken, but Graham obtained the #48 as soon as it became available. Notably, this is one of only two jerseys, which Otto Graham kept from his entire playing career, making this a nearly impossible acquisition and a truly special piece (his other jersey was also sold by Lelands in a previous auction). Button crotch style white wool jersey bears his #48 on the front and the back and shows extensive signs of game use and wear with stadium dirt caked into the fabric. Tagging on the inside of the front piece is “Rawlings” with [size] 42 and care tags. LOA from Otto and son, Duey Graham.
