1946 Chicago Cubs National League Champions Banner

1946 Chicago Cubs National League Champions Banner

Large vintage Chicago Cubs rectangular cloth banner, measuring over ten feet by five feet, that once hung at Wrigley Field. The double-sided design features a white diamond in the center, within which is the letter "C" and two blue stars. The words "Chicago" and "Cubs" are lettered, respectively, above and below the diamond. Eight red stars appear on either side of the diamond. The two stars in the center diamond represent the Cubs' two World Championships, while the stars on each side represent the club's eight National League pennants. Since the Cubs' won their eighth pennant in 1945, this banner could not have hung at the stadium prior to 1945, and most likely made its debut in 1946. It is not known how many years it was flown, but since the Cubs did not win another pennant until 2016, it certainly saw an extended period of use. The banner (114x68") displays moderate-to-heavy wear, consistent with its outdoor use, including light staining and repaired tears, none of which detract from its overall Excellent appearance.
