1946 Nels Potter St. Louis Browns Game Worn Jersey

1946 Nels Potter St. Louis Browns Game Worn Jersey

Nels Potter was a pitcher of the mid-20th century who spent 12 years in Major League Baseball. His best season came in 1944, wartime in America, when he finished ninth in the AL MVP voting with a 19-7 record and 2.83 ERA, which helped propel the St. Louis Browns to the AL pennant. This Browns jersey was game worn by Potter during the 1946 season. It has "St. Louis" on a nameplate on front, and "Potter, 46" embroidered on the tail. There is a Rawlings size 44 tag in the neck. The jersey shows great use with a few stains on the lower tail and the back of the neck, as well as multiple team repairs and a removed patch on the left sleeve. The uniform was worn by another player after Potter, as Potter's number "27" has been swapped out for "24." The Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles following the 1953 season.

Addendum: The front nameplate "St. Louis" is not original as this style was only used in 1952 and 1953. The players that wore "24" in 1952 or 1953 were: Johnny Hetki, Bobby Hogue, Bob Mahoney, Bobo Holloman and Bob Turley.
