1947 All Star Game Sporting News Original COVER ART By WIllard Mullin
<p>NOTE: The lot comes with the original <em>The Sporting News</em> tear sheet showing the final product. </p><div><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Fantastic 1947 original artwork by Willard Mullin of Joe Cronin of the Red Sox and Eddie Dyer of the Cardinals with two generic "All Stars". The game was played on July 8, 1947 which the AL won by a score of 2-1. Mullin is famous for working as a Sporting News illustrator as well as creating the iconic "Brooklyn Bum" mascot. The artwork measures 19" in height and 16" wide. The piece has some pencil notations throughout. Overall, it is in very good condition. The illustration also comes with an original cut out from The Sporting News showing the cartoon.</span></div><p><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">These select pieces were saved by one of the original owners of The Sporting News Original Art Archives. Coming directly from The Sporting News, they were purchased at auction in the 1990s. These represent some of the better images by the finest artists including Willard Mullin, Karl Hubenthal, Leo O’Melia and the unsung hero, Lou Darvas.</span></p>
