1947 Babe Ruth "Babe Ruth Day" Kramer Photo (PSA Type I)
Displayed is a Type I original photograph (from Kramer Photos) that was taken on April 27, 1947, Babe Ruth Day at the Little League World Series ceremony at City Hall in Los Angeles, California. After Babe Ruth retired from playing in the 1935 season, the inaugural Hall of Famer served as a coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1938 and was involved in supporting the U.S. military during World War II, and also in making myriad appearances in support of youth baseball. The Sultan of Swat had been diagnosed with cancer in 1946, and although the disease exhibited periods of remission, to a discerning eye, the offered photo, with the Babe's jacket fitting loosely around his neck and shoulders, shows the weight loss that Ruth underwent as he battled for his life. Ruth was widely known for his sincere affection for children, and his acts of kindness to young fans were numerous and usually unpublicized, so his work with youth baseball was natural for him. The Babe passed away in the year following this photo, 1948. The 8x10" image comes with a PSA/DNA LOA that certifies the Type I photo as AUTHENTIC.
