1947 Jackie Robinson Rookie Year Original Glass Plate Negative
Jackie Robinson broke the long-standing baseball "color line' when he started at first base in the Brooklyn Dodgers' Opening Day line-up on April 15, 1947, at Ebbets Field. Presented is an original plate glass negative of a photo taken of Robinson, with the enclosed original envelope date stamped May 12, 1947, only four weeks after his Major League debut. The negative depicts Robinson on the sidelines near first base. Hall of Famer Robinson was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1947, as he hit .297 and led the league in stolen bases with 29. Robinson hit .311 lifetime in his ten years of MLB, all with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and he was an MVP, a batting champion, and he helped Brooklyn to its only World Series Championship, in 1955. Robinson is one of the foremost civil rights pioneers in American history. The plate glass negative is very significant because it dates from Robinson's historic rookie season. The original envelope is date stamped May 12, 1947. The upper right corner is broken off, but still here and enclosed. The break does not affect the image of Jackie whatsoever. The item comes with a print (1980s) of the image. To be crystal clear, this is a valuable, original - from the camera - plate glass negative.
