1947 Negro League Western All Stars Original Photo

1947 Negro League Western All Stars Original Photo

An original 8 x 10 inch photograph picturing the triumphant 1947 Negro League Western All Stars. Played at Comiskey Park before a capacity crowd of 50,000 fans, the Western All Stars defeated the Eastern All Stars by a score of 5 - 2. This was no small feat, as the Eastern All Stars boasted such Negro League immortals as Monte Irvin, Minnie Minoso, Max Manning, Pee Wee Butts, and Biz Mackey. But they were no match for the Western All Stars, who included Sam Jethroe, Goose Tatum, Dan Bankhead, Chet Brewer, Gentry Jessup, Buddy Armour, Art Wilson, Herb Souell, Piper Davis, Quincy Trouppe and Jose Colas. The photograph is inscribed and signed in vintage black ink by renown photographer E.C. Withers. The back of the photo is also stamped "E.C. Withers." An striking visual relic of this team for the ages. Overall EX-MT condition.
