In part:

. . . . please be advised that I hereby elect that my agency contract with you shall be immediately transferred to Elsie Cukor – Lipton Agency, 9157 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California, with which Mr. Harry Lipton is now associated. Please be further advised that henceforth all your rights arising out of said contract whether for commissions or otherwise shall immediately terminate. This will further advise that I hereby cancel the General Management contract with you dated March 11, 1946. Will you please deliver to the Elsie Cukor – Lipton Agency all contracts and files belonging to me and in your possession. . . .

The letter is signed “Norma Jeane Dougherty” in blue ink (grading 8/10). This is an early Marilyn Monroe signed document. Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson, but later changed her name to Norma Jeane Dougherty after marrying her first husband James Dougherty in 1942. In 1946 she adopted the screen name Marilyn Monroe, which was the same year in which she divorced James Dougherty. As seen here, she continued to use the name Norma Jeane Dougherty for a short period of time until Marilyn Monroe became her legal name. It was right at this time that we have seen several of her legal documents signed with both the names Norma Jeane Dougherty and Marilyn Monroe, which indicates that the offered letter represents one of the last times she would identify herself as “Norma Jeane Dougherty.” The letter (8.5x11”) is lightly toned and displays a few minor creases and edge tears. In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from PSA.
