1947 Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Jimmy Doyle Framed Photographs (11)
On June 24, 1947 at the Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, Welterweight Champion Sugar Ray Robinson defended his title against Jimmy Doyle, stopping him in the 8th round with a stinging left hook at the bell. Doyle could not come out for the 9th round and subsequently died from the injuries he sustained in this bout. Offered here is a series of first and second-generation photographs dealing with this fight. The group includes a promotional photo of Doyle in full pose, several photos of Robinson and Doyle during the contract signing and medicals, several fight photos including Doyle down in the ring at the end, and a sot of Doyle on a stretcher being carried from the ring.
