1948 Babe Ruth Day Colorized "Proof" by Ralph Morse

1948 Babe Ruth Day Colorized "Proof" by Ralph Morse

Stunning image was originally shot in 1948 by famed LIFE magazine career photographer Ralph Morse. Taken at Yankee Stadium on June 13, 1948, it is entitled, "Last Day as A Yankee". It features a tired and worn Sultan of Swat beside his locker taking off his cleats for the final time. This "one of" color test proof was created more recently for TIME-LIFE publication purposes. Of the highest quality it was made from the original 1948 negative and signed off on and copyrighted by Morse (16x20"). Whether this is a Type I or III creates an interesting debate. The image was shot in 1948 but this is a unique colorized version by the original photographer himself and signed off by him ("OK") and copyrighted makes this something of a new entity. Either way, this is a one of a kind work of one of the most important of all Babe Ruth images.
