1948 Casey Stengel Signed Handwritten Oakland Oaks Lineup Cards

1948 Casey Stengel Signed Handwritten Oakland Oaks Lineup Cards

Just one season before embarking on a managing career that included seven World Series championships with the New York Yankees, Casey Stengel was the bench boss for the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast league. These handwritten lineup cards are from the 1948 season, when the "Old Perfesser" managed the Oaks. Each card measures 3x5", the backs are dated "Casey Stengel 1948" and both are signed by Stengel on front. There is some fading and a thumbtack hole, but the writing - one in pencil and the other in blue ink - is starkly clear. That 1948 Oaks squad - of "Nine Old Men" fame - won 114 games and captured the league championship.
