1948 Joe Louis vs. Joe Walcott Full Ticket PSA EX 5 (Pop 1 - None Higher)

As the great Joe Louis was nearing the end of his boxing career, he was matched against another veteran opponent named “Jersey Joe” Walcott. Both boxers were 33 years of age with Walcott (44-11-2) actually being four months older than Louis. On Dec. 5, 1947, the two boxers squared off at New York’s Madison Square Garden and Louis, despite being knocked down twice in the first four rounds, squeaked out a split decision after 15 rounds. Six months later, the two boxers met again, this time at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York, on June 23, 1947. Due to inclement weather, the bout was postponed until June 25 and Louis again prevailed, this time by a knockout in the 11th round. This lot offers a full authentic ticket (7.25” wide by 2.75” high) from the second bout which shows the originally scheduled date of June 23, 1948. It sports a “$50.00” price tag for this Mezzanine Box Seat, which was located in Section 19, Box 141C. Now encapsulated in a ticket holder that measures 9.5” wide by 4.5” high, the ticket has been graded in Excellent 5 condition by PSA.
