1948 Pee Wee Reese Signed Brooklyn Dodgers Contract w/Original Cover Letter (PSA)
Pee Wee Reese 1948 Brooklyn Dodgers signed contract, together with a copy of the original cover letter sent by Branch Rickey. The four-page fold-over contract between "Harold H. Reese" and the "Brooklyn National League Baseball Club, Inc." is dated January 26, 1948, and has been signed in black (grading 10/10) by "Harold H. Reese" and in blue ink (7/10) by "Branch Rickey" as president of the Dodgers. The one-year agreement for the 1948 season calls for Reese to receive a salary of $17,500. Reese batted .274 with 9 home runs, 75 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 1948. The contract (8.5x11"), which displays two horizontal folds, remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Included with the contract is a one-page file-copy of the cover letter sent to Reese by Branch Rickey, which is dated January 25, 1948. Obviously, Reese wasn't happy with the amount offered by the Dodgers, but Rickey makes it plain to him that the Dodgers feel the offer is more than fair. Apparently, Reese did too, since he eventually signed and returned it to the club. The file-copy letter (8.5x11"), typed on onion skin, displays uneven toning, light creasing and staple holes. Full LOA from PSA.
