1949-50 Trenton Giants Game Worn Jersey
The Trenton Giants were a Class B affiliate of the New York Giants. In 1949, the Trenton team had seven future Major Leaguers, including: Al Corwin, Ray Katt, Mario Piccone, and Marv Blaylock. The team finished fourth in the regular season, but won the Inter-State League play-offs. In 1950, the team again finished fourth, did not advance in the play-offs, but more important, the team had Willie Mays in his first minor league season. The item is an away, gray woolen jersey with black letters reading "Trenton" on front. On back, the number "12" was once displayed, but the number "2" is missing. It cannot be determined which player or players wore number "12" in the 1949 and 1950 seasons. Tagged on neck with the name of a clothing firm partially obscured through partial loss from top of tag. Place of manufacturing is partially missing from tag, but it can be determined to be Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Jersey has four buttons, all intact. Measures 21" from shoulder pit to shoulder pit, which means that the jersey would equate to a size 42. Jersey has a number of very small holes, possibly from insects. Also has a stain on lower right back, and some sweat stains around inside and outside of neck.
