1949 Boy Scouts "Inspiration" Award Presented to Joe DiMaggio

Joe DiMaggio had a busy day on Oct.1, 1949. His New York Yankee club played against his brother Dom's team, the Boston Braves at Yankee Stadium. Joe went 2 for 4, with a double and a run scored as the Bronx Bombers won 5-4. Then, presumably Joe went to a Boy Scout gathering to receive this Boy Scout "Inspiration Award". The award is a foot tall and on a base that is 4" in diameter. The inscription on the base of the award reads, "Presented to Joe DiMaggio from the Boy Scouts of America for his outstanding example and inspiration to American youth Oct.1, 1949". The award has a minor chip on the back, near the base. There is surface loss of the copper color in the rings at the feet of the statuette. Bothered by injuries, Joe played in only 76 games in 1949, hitting .346 with 14 home runs and 67 RBIs. As usual, the Yankees won the World Series. The Yankee Clipper would play two more seasons. DiMaggio has become an American legend. The award is a nice memento this Hall of Fame legend.
