1949 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Baseball w/Robinson & Campanella (PSA)
Presented is an Official National League Baseball signed by 20+ members of the 1949 National League Champion Brooklyn Dodgers. That season, the Dodgers lost the World Series by a 4-1 margin in games to the New York Yankees. Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson signed the ball. In that '49 season, Robinson hit .342, with 16 home runs, 122 runs, 124 RBIs, and a .342 batting average. Signing his name in blue ink, Robinson signed on the top area of a panel. Below Robinson's on the same panel is the signature of Pee Wee Reese, the team's Hall of Fame shortstop. Roy Campanella also signed the ball. The Hall of Fame catcher hit 22 home runs that season. Also signing were Hall of Fame center fielder Duke Snider, and Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese. Left-hander Preacher Roe had a mound record of 17-8 with a 2.79 ERA. The signature of the Dodgers' manager, Burt Shotton, is clubhouse. Other notable signatures: Billy Cox, Luis Olmo, Bruce Edwards, Don Newcombe, and Roe. Some of the signatures are very faint or illegible. The ball exhibits many scuff marks and in a number of places the skin of the ball has worn off. In addition, the ball shows darkening, some foxing and a few small stains are also evident from age. The ball has been covered with a substance, most likely shellac, to preserve the signatures. Although a number of signatures are illegible or too faint to read, the above-named Hall of Fame signatures of Brooklyn Dodgers immortals give the ball fine nostalgia value. The ball comes with a PSA LOA.
