1949 Jackie Robinson Signed Cleveland Barnstorming Program

1949 Jackie Robinson Signed Cleveland Barnstorming Program

An underlooked aspect of Jackie Robinson's shattering of the color line is that by 1949, he had achieved such a level of respect that he was able to front his own postseason All-Star barnstorming team on a tour of smalltown America. Even racist players realized the drawing power of the Robinson name, which still resonates. Few mementos of the Robinson tour can be found, so this one is a particular coup -- an Oklahoma City Indians (the Texas League team of the Cleveland Indians) program signed by Robinson on the cover. The signature is actually the only link to Jackie or his team, as a regular-season program was used for the game, with two blank scorecards pasted over the team names and rosters for the Indians and the Tulsa Oilers in the centerfold. The Robinson signature here is in NRMT blue ink and the program is EX with the "redman" in a batting pose above an ad for Beverly's Drive-In restaurant.
