1949 Jackie Robinson Signed Handwritten Postcard - MVP Season (PSA)

1949 Jackie Robinson Signed Handwritten Postcard - MVP Season (PSA)

Government postcard signed by Jackie Robinson. PSA has encapsulated the postcard and certified the signature as "Authentic." Here, Robinson responds to a fan who obviously inquired about his young son. Robinson has inscribed the card "My child is a boy 2 1/2 years old. Sincerely Jackie Robinson." Both the text and signature have been scripted in black fountain pen and grade 8/10 overall. The postmark on the reverse is dated "Brooklyn N.Y. Apr 28 1949." The 1949 season was the finest of Robinson's career, as he finished the year with career and league-high totals in both stolen bases (37) and batting average (.342). Those numbers, together with his 16 home runs and 124 RBI, earned him the National League MVP Award at season's end. Robinson and the Dodgers were visiting the Polo Grounds on the day this postcard was mailed, with Robinson contributing two singles and an RBI in the club's 15-2 win that day. The postcard (5.5x3.25") displays several light-to-moderate creases, both a small amount of paper loss and tape residue on the front (obscuring a portion of the recipient's name), and tape residue in each corner on the reverse.
