1950 Jackie Robinson Doll Advertisement
Presented is a vividly colorful 1950 advertisement for the Jackie Robinson Doll. The appealing ad is printed on thin card stock. It shows a photo of the Robinson Doll in a Dodgers uniform, and measures 8.5x11.6". The ad reads, in part, "ALLIED-GRAND EXCLUSIVE!/the Jackie Robinson Doll/it's a Hit/AUTHENTIC DODGER UNIFORM 13" tall/ORDER NOW! Be sure to have a JACKIE ROBINSON DOLL for the opening of the baseball season/Allied-Grand Doll Manufacturing Co. 77 Nostrand Ave. Brooklyn 5, N.Y. Telephone ULster 5, 3773/See Us At The Toy Fair Rooms 838-40," The doll is outfitted in a replica uniform that looks like the satin uniforms that Brooklyn used around that time. The doll even has a Brooklyn replica cap, belt, and spikes. When this doll was advertised prior to the opening of the 1950 season, Hall of Famer Robinson had completed three years in MLB. He was at his peak. In 1949, he was the NL MVP as he led the league in batting average (.342), sacrifices (17) and stolen bases (37), and he was a major factor in leading Brooklyn to its second pennant in three years. On the back of the advertisement is an ad for other Allied-Grand dolls. The advertisement is in EXCELLENT to MINT condition.
