1950 Jackie Robinson Signed "Autograph Rejection" Letter (PSA)

On September 12, 1950, the Brooklyn Dodgers were in a pennant race - one that they would lose to the Philadelphia Phillies, the "Whiz Kids," on the last day of the season. Jackie Robinson was the NL MVP in 1949, when the Dodgers won the Pennant. He was still going strong in 1950, and he would hit .328 for the season. In May, The Jackie Robinson Story had opened, with Jackie playing himself. It was one of the first American films to portray an African American as a hero. Robinson wrote this letter to a fan who had complimented Robinson on the movie and who had requested an autographed baseball. In a typewritten letter, Jackie wrote back, thanked the fan for his compliments on the movie, and said, "I regret that I do not have an autographed ball to send you. The demands are so numerous that we cannot fill them." Then Robinson signed the letter. Robinson was a superb and electrifying Hall of Fame player who was also one of the foremost civil rights pioneers in American history. It comes with the original envelope and a PSA Letter of Authenticity. Offered is a kind letter from an idol as he politely sends regrets to an admirer. It's a letter worthy of inclusion in any collection.
