1950 Minneapolis Lakers Championship Pictorial Album Signed by George Mikan (PSA)

1950 Minneapolis Lakers Championship Pictorial Album Signed by George Mikan (PSA)

Presented is a fascinating 1950 Minneapolis Lakers pictorial album signed by Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame center George Mikan, known as "Mr. Basketball." Mikan was a 3-time All-American at DePaul University, where, with the help of coach Ray Meyer, Mikan broke through a stereotype - amazingly enough - that very tall men were too clumsy to play basketball. Meyer typically wore large spectacles, and he learned to shoot hook shots with either hand. As a pro, Mikan was a 7-time World Champion who won four scoring titles in a nine-year period. The displayed pictorial album functions as a type of yearbook. Measuring 9x12", the 32-page (including covers) album is titled "LAKER BASKETBALL WORLD CHAMPIONS." The album celebrates three consecutive Minneapolis Lakers teams, World Champions in three different professional basketball leagues. Three 7.25x12" black and white team photos on pages in the album show: 1) The 1948 Lakers, Champions of the National Basketball League, with Mikan the team's leading scorer, at 21.3 PPG, won the Championship. 2) The 1949 Lakers won the Basketball Association of America World Championship by beating the Washington Capitols in the league finals and Mikan averaged 28.3 PPG. 3) The 1950 Lakers won the first World Championship in the new National Basketball Association of America as Mikan averaged 27.4 PPG. This team included 6'3" forward Bud Grant, later the HOF football coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Mikan has signed and inscribed the cover of the album in black marker as "George Mikan Mr. Basketball." Included is a 4x6" color photo of Mikan signing 1950 Minneapolis Lakers album covers. The album is in excellent condition, and it will enthrall all viewers with its nostalgia providing a trip back to the early days of professional basketball. The album comes with a PSA LOA.
