1950s Baseball Watercolors by John Cullen Murphy

1950s Baseball Watercolors by John Cullen Murphy

Two impressive works by John Cullen Murphy feature watercolors on artist board in immaculate detail. First image depicts a batter with catcher and umpire intently waiting for the impending pitch, framed and matted to 23x16". Second, and best of all, is Murphy's interpretation of Ty Cobb sliding by Charles Conlon, framed and matted to 15x19". As a famous sports illustrator, over the years Murphy had works regularly published in Sport Magazine, Collier's, Look, Esquire, Liberty, Sport, and Holiday, so it is possible these were published covers or images used at some point.
