1950s Richie Ashburn Signed Game Used Bat (34.5")
Ashburn was a singles-hitting machine who topped the .300 mark 9 times and won 2 batting titles. On May 20, 1951, the year of the Phillies' miracle pennant, he singled 8 times in a doubleheader against the Dodgers. The soft-spoken HOFer was one of the most popular and respected men in the game. Ashburn's Adirondack 137B was given to teammate Andy Seminick and shows heavy use with telltale residue and black splotches on the barrel, attesting that a ton of hits lived in this wood. There's a crack high on the handle and a series of nails were hammered into the area by the batboy to keep the bat from breaking (though it made the bat illegal for game use). Also a splash of red on the knob. Bat is autographed "Richie Ashburn HOF 95" in black marker on the precious barrel, earning a 9/10 signature. A mighty distinguished piece of lumber.
