1950s Roy Campanella Calendar & Post Card Advertising His Fateful Liquor Store
Quite a "Campy" find, this is an original advertising calendar for the Harlem liquor store of his name. Roy Campanella left it that fateful night in 1957 when his car hit a skid and flipped over, paralyzing him for life. The calendar photo at the top is a separate tipped-in piece of paper. This is incredibly rare. Unlike the far more common Jackie Robinson calendars, this was not done commercially and mass-produced for use with a slew of different advertisers. This was something with only "Roy Campanella, Inc." advertising, only distributed free of charge to local Harlem businesses for promotional purposes. It serves a secondary purpose as a Campanella family Christmas card showing Campy and his son, reading, "Greetings from the Campanellas." Displays some wear including chips and a couple of tears but all the calendar pages from his final and fateful year are displayed. Measures 15x10.25". Also comes with "Roy Campanella - Wines And Liquors" Real Photo Postcard; presents GOOD overall.
