1951 American League All Star Pennant
Presented is a 1951 Major League All-Star Game pennant with the names of 32 of the All-Stars and each manager and an image of the host venue, Briggs Stadium, in Detroit. The pennant also contains an image of the Detroit 250th Birthday Festival. The pennant is 26" long and at its greatest height it measures 10.5". The pennant lists 16 of the 25 players on each squad: American League - Casey Stengel, manager (HOF), Larry Berra (HOF) (Berra was not listed as Yogi), Chico Carrasquel, Dom DiMaggio, Joe DiMaggio (HOF), Larry Doby (HOF), Ferris Fain, Nelson Fox (HOF), Ned Garver, Fred Hutchinson, George Kell (HOF), Bob Lemon (HOF), Ed Lopat, Connie Mannero, Eddie Robinson, Vic Wertz, and Ted Williams (HOF). National League - Eddie Sawyer, manager, Richie Ashburn (HOF), Ewell Blackwell, Roy Campanella (HOF), Alvin Dark, Bruce Edwards, Bob Elliott, Del Ennis, Gil Hodges (HOF), Ralph Kiner (HOF), Dutch Leonard, Sal Maglie, Stan Musial (HOF), Don Newcombe, Jackie Robinson (HOF), Enos Slaughter (HOF), Warren Spahn (HOF). The National League won the game 8-3. Sal Maglie was the winning pitcher and Eddie Lopat took the loss. Musial, Elliott, Hodges, and Kiner homered for the National League and Vic Wertz and Kell hit round-trippers for the Junior Circuit. The pennant exhibits some fading because of the passage of years, but overall it is in excellent condition.
