1951 New York Giants World Series Game Worn Uniform
Road grey uniform was likely worn October 5, 1951 as the Giants crossed the Harlem River to meet the Yankees in Game Two of the World Series, just days after Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'round the World." Pitcher George Spencer closed out a losing effort started by Larry Jansen as the Yanks evened the Series at a game apiece. 1) Road grey jersey. "New York" spans chest in black and orange, with number "30" on verso. Missing National League 75th Anniversary patch tips us off to its World Series vintage, as does the fact that it was acquired from the player directly, who logically would have kept his final uniform from the season. "MacGregor Goldsmith size 46" tagging in collar, with "Spencer" stitched in red below. "Set 2 1951" tagging in tail. 2) Matching pants. "MacGregor Goldsmith size 36" tagging in waistband, with "Spencer" stitched in red along with "Set 2 1951" flag tag. 3) Cap is tagged "Tim McAuliffe Inc." and stamped size "7 5/8." All pieces show light but absolute wear and display brilliantly. One of the most exciting teams in baseball history.
