1951 Sugar Bowl Banner
This royal blue silk-screened cloth banner hung in New Orleans during the 1951 Sugar Bowl and reads "Welcome New Orleans Sugar Bowl Mid Winter Sports Classic." The 17th Sugar Bowl matchup, 1951's game pitted the Big Seven champion Oklahoma Sooners (ranked #1 in the Associated Press poll) against the Southeastern Conference champion Kentucky Wildcats (ranked #7). Bear Bryant's Wildcats beat the Sooners, coached by Bud Wilkinson, 13-7. Back then, the game was held at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans on January 1. This banner measures 35x47" and is in EX condition, with one small hole at the top left.
